Eclectica Contemporary presents two solo exhibitions exploring identity, transformation, and belonging through distinct photographic practices.

In Between Truth and Fiction, Hasan Essop marks a significant new chapter in his practice, returning to a visual language developed over nearly two decades of working collaboratively with his twin brother, but now working alone. Through photography, performance, collage, and drawing, Essop examines identity as something constructed, performed, and continually negotiated, exploring the boundaries between reality and fiction, belonging and exclusion.

In Palingenesis, Justin Dingwall returns to the butterfly, a defining symbol of his early practice, to reflect on transformation, renewal, and the evolution of identity. Bringing new works into dialogue with selected earlier photographs from his celebrated Albus series, Dingwall considers the many selves we inhabit, the skins we shed, and the possibility of becoming anew. Presented as part of the Cape Town Photography Festival, these exhibitions offer two distinct perspectives on transformation, inviting audiences to consider identity as something shaped through performance, memory, change, and the passage of time.
